A city, many experiences
Projektionen brought together young people who had long called Frankfurt home and others who had arrived more recently, including participants with refugee backgrounds. Created by Shaho Nemati, Martina Droste and Jorma Foth, the performance was a collaboration between Schauspiel Frankfurt and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM). The encounter between these different experiences gave the project its starting point: a shared city does not mean a shared history.
Architecture as a social space
Architecture was central: not simply a backdrop, but something that shapes how people live and move. Buildings carry history and tradition while expressing power, permanence and change. The meeting of young people with different experiences of arrival brought these themes into a shared performance.
Shaho Nemati’s contribution
Nemati co-created the performance with Droste and Foth, bringing his filmmaking practice into a collaborative theatre setting. The project explored how the spaces people inhabit shape their experience of a city.
The performances on 7 and 9 March 2017 were listed in the accompanying programme for the exhibition Making Heimat at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum. This connection placed the project within a wider conversation about arrival, the city and the meaning of home.
